Forklift Tires
There are two types of tires which could be used on forklifts: press on and standard. Typically, press on tires are utilized on electric forklifts and those types of forklifts used indoors like warehouses. The press on tires could be used also in light industrial operation as well.
Surfaces that are rough or uneven need tougher tires and more traction. Hence, standard tires are normally used. However, they are generally utilized on forklifts that operate in outdoor environment.
Because there are lots of various types of forklifts, there are also lots of various types of forklift tires. The kinds of tires that are most frequently used are pneumatic, solid and polyurethane. The type of tires are dictated by where and what the forklift is utilized for. It is very vital to get the right tires for the job and ensuring the correct pick would have a big effect on both safety and performance.
It is better to utilize pneumatic tires on outdoor forklifts that function in an all-terrain environment such as on construction sites. These are made of durable rubber and then filled with air, like a truck or tractor tire. Pneumatic tires create an air cushion between the forklift and the terrain. This particular design significantly lessens the wear and tear on the machinery and creates a very comfortable ride for the operator. The thick, deep treads on the tires give the necessary traction required for use on surfaces that are uneven and rough.
For light industrial applications, both indoors and outdoors, solid tires are suitable. They are fabricated out of tough, constructed solid rubber. This helps them to stay safer from blowouts, popping like pneumatic tires or damage due to puncture wounds. Because these tires are not filled with air, they are unable to provide the cushion effect. This fact makes them unsuitable for use on rough terrain. Some solid tires are made with holes in the sidewalls to provide a fairly softer ride. The only problem is that this kind of construction makes the load carrying capacity of the forklift less.
The polyurethane forklift tires will typically outlast both of the rubber tire designs but are designed for indoor warehouse applications only. The load capacity of polyurethane is much higher than that of a rubber tire. These tires work great with well with electric forklifts due to the added weight of the equipment's batteries. Because of the tire's lower rolling resistance, one more benefit of this type of tire is the extended battery life.
