Audible Devices - Back-Up or Motion Alarms:
The audible devices like motion alarms or back-up alarms produce sound that needs to be loud enough to be heard above the sound that the forklift generates in the operating place.
The sound needs to be readily discernible from other audible devices or sounds within the work setting. Sound must be readily distinguishable from other noise or audible devices in the work place. The audible device could employee noise exposure and end up contribute to OSHA noise limitation; thus, care should be taken.
Hearing protection makes it really harder to hear the audible device and to determine which direction and distance it is coming from. Audible devices can occasionally get deactivated from both employees and operators because they can find them annoying. In addition, audible devices could also be objectionable to nearby residents.
Additional Application and Operator Options:

Impact Monitor: The impact monitor deactivates the unit and when this happens, it requires a supervisor to re-enable and override the unit. This encourages the operator to be sure to manage the equipment in a more controlled way.
