Size
On the back of the forklift is a counterbalance, which enables the forklift to lift very heavy objects. The counterbalance gives balance so that the equipment will not tip over while carrying and moving heavy loads. Forklifts are rated according to their load capacity. A small lift truck which could raise 1800 kilograms weighs about 4000 kilograms, which is the same as two full-size pickup trucks. The largest forklifts can carry stuff as heavy as 36,000 kilograms.

Considerations
In using a lift truck, there are lots of safety concerns. For example, travel in reverse when driving down a ramp. You should also haul a load in reverse if the load interferes with vision and is bulky. Operators must be familiar with how to safely mount the lift using the "three-point stance." This includes putting the right hand on the back of the seat, while gripping the upright of the safety cage using the left hand and placing the left foot on the step. On no account should you jump out of a lift truck even in a tip over. It is safer to remain inside the confines of the lift. Any slip or fall on a lift truck can lead to severe injuries.

Potential
Forklifts are considered indispensable tools in many businesses because they can be used to efficiently and quickly load and unload things and materials safely and with little physical exertion. Pedestrian safety is a primary priority when working in public spaces. Operators should always give pedestrians the right-of-way. A lift truck should never be driven on uneven grounds or on a highway. The driver must have a seat belt firmly fastened all the time when driving.

Expert Insight
Forklifts would always be necessary pieces of machine for businesses since forklifts are an important tool in any culture that produces and consumes mass-produced products. OSHA oversees compliance standards for businesses that utilize forklifts and provides certification and licensing protocols. The forklift Rodeo is an entertainment event meant for operators and other employees that includes an obstacle course and other entertaining spectacles.
